“I don’t understand, Karl. You could be with any guy in town tonight. Why an old man?”

Karl rolled over on his side under the satin sheets and faced Leonard. Propping his head on his left hand, his look was one of impatience. “Leo, we’ve had this conversation before. Like I told you. “Don’t you feel it too?”

Leonard hesitated. As much as he wanted to please the man, he wasn’t sure their feelings were the same. “I’m—I’ve never felt this way about anyone else, Karl, but—things are different for men your age. When I was twenty-three, Christ—what year was that?”

“Nineteen-sixty-seven. I’ve thought about all this.”

“Nineteen-sixty-seven,” Leonard repeated, letting his hand wander down to Karl’s firmly toned bubble-shaped ass. “Do you know how different things were in 1967 than they are today?”

“Really? Bet they didn’t even let gay men join the Marines back then, did they?”

“Now, Karl, you know what I mean—”

“No I don’t. Things still suck but I don’t see what that’s got to do with you and me.” Karl gave Leonard his most seductive look. He reached behind and slid Leonard’s hand from his buttocks, maneuvering Leonard’s finger into his hole, which was still lubed from their earlier lovemaking. Leaning into Leonard’s ear, Karl whispered, “I’m tired of talking. You had enough rest? I want you to punish me this time.”

For half a second, Leonard wasn’t sure he had the strength to go another round with the man less than half his age, but all it took was one look at Karl’s delicious face and body and Leonard rallied to the cause. “Punish you?” he asked, sliding over on the California king–sized bed. “What do you want me to do?”
